Workspaces

Personal and team workspaces

The same container with a different owner, and the three things that actually change when work becomes shared.

Both kinds hold boards, a library, storage, credits and people. A team workspace is the same container owned by an organisation rather than by you, and three things change in a way you feel daily.

Personal Team
Credits Yours alone One pool, everyone draws from it
Storage Your allowance A much larger pooled allowance
Members You Up to fifty seats
Library What you made What anybody made, visible to all
Who pays You The organisation

The shared credit pool is the one that changes behaviour. In a personal workspace your balance is a private budget; in a team it is a shared resource that a colleague’s video afternoon can move without warning.

Four signals, and any two of them are usually enough:

  • More than one person is generating. Two people on personal plans cannot see each other’s assets, which means the same reference gets made twice
  • The work outlives the person. A freelancer’s personal workspace leaves with them and takes the provenance with it
  • Storage is the friction. Video and textured 3D reach an individual allowance faster than people expect
  • Somebody needs to answer for it. Compliance questions want one library with one record, not five accounts

If you are one person, a personal workspace is the right shape and a team one adds administration for nothing. Being able to invite somebody to a single board covers most of the occasional collaboration without changing the account you work in.

Joining a team does not automatically leave you with two workspaces. If the team is the only one you belong to, it becomes your workspace outright. You keep a personal one alongside it when you belong to more than one team, or when you pay for a plan of your own.

Where both exist, most people use the team workspace for client work and the personal one for experiments and for anything that is not the company’s.

Switching between them is a menu, covered in switching, and what changes.
